According to Chen Yi-Kai's "Professor Yang Ying-Feng's World of Dharma Forms," "Concern for the realization of a pure land on Earth inspired Yang to create the stainless steel work '[Chang Xin]' for World Earth Day in 1990. It was a response to the environmental movement through Buddhist philosophy. This was launched in conjunction with activities such as the 'Pure Land Series Lectures' and 'Environmental Root-Seeking Tour' organized with the Fayuan Temple in Hsinchu and the Ju-Feng Buddhist Arts and Culture Foundation. The driving force behind these events was Master Kuan-Chien, who resided at Fayuan Temple and is Yang's youngest daughter, Han-Heng, who had long been supported by him. This collaboration between father and daughter for an environmental event was exceptionally meaningful. Although he was a sculptor, what set him apart was that he was an artist who cherished life, valued ecological aesthetics, and was also influenced by Buddhist teachings. Therefore, in response to World Earth Day in 1990, he used a composition of a circular chain encircling a sphere to express the ceaseless cycle of the Earth's operation, titling the work '[Chang Xin]' (ever-green) as a symbol of China's participation in World Earth Day activities." After the Earth Day event, "[Chang Xin]" was purchased by a developer in southern Taiwan and placed in front of the Liang-Mei Building (now the Cathay United Bank in Tainan City). | Collections | The original artwork is part of the collection of Wu Tsung-Chi (Yang Ying-Feng's family) at the Mandarin Hotel in Singapore.
