For 17 years, we have been producing this classic straw hat using fabric that is hand-spun and then hand-woven from linen yarn. Due to the impact of COVID-19, fabric production was halted during a period of decreased hat demand. This led to the artisans moving on to other work, making it difficult to resume fabric production even after the pandemic subsided. We have been searching for alternative fabrics, but there is no clear prospect at this time. It is with great regret that we announce that with the current rolls of fabric being the last, production of our straw hats will cease. The cultivation area for flax itself is decreasing globally, making it a precious resource. We are very grateful to the artisans who secured flax fibers and wove them for kubomi. The exact discontinuation date for the hats depends on the number of orders received, making it unpredictable.
