Inspired by these ever-beautiful signs, we decided to embark on creating hand-painted solid wood signs, hoping to bring some tactile, handcrafted signage to Taiwan. The wood used for these signs is sourced from 80-year-old wooden structures or furniture in Taiwan. The exposed surfaces have naturally oxidized over time due to air and sunlight, resulting in a darker hue—this is not due to staining. Other surfaces reveal the natural color of the wood after cutting. The surface is coated with a transparent varnish and oil painting varnish, providing a certain level of water resistance. However, to retain the original warmth and texture of the wood, no thick glossy coatings are applied, so the signs are not completely waterproof. The old wood has an extremely low rate of deformation or cracking, though new time-worn marks may still develop on the surface. ・Material: Solid Wood ・Process: The solid wood is hand-painted with acrylic paint. ・Features: Painted with acrylic paint, which may fade or chip under high levels of friction or impact. ・Condition: Some wooden surfaces are brush-textured with prominent grains, causing the edges to be less smooth, but every effort is made to refine them. ・Finish: ILVA Transparent Varnish / Oil Painting Varnish ・Care Instructions: Avoid washing with large amounts of water followed by direct sunlight exposure. ・Origin: Taiwan wood, crafted in a studio in New Taipei City.
