The pattern is created using a technique called "抜染" (bassen), where color is removed from the fabric, and then colored using "型摺り染" (katasuri-zome), a dyeing method. Crafted from a lightweight cotton material, it can also be enjoyed as a table runner or a decorative tapestry hung on a wall. "型摺り染" (Katasuri-zome) This is a dyeing technique where a stencil is fixed onto the fabric, and dye is applied by brushing it through the stencil. It is a method used in styles like Edo Sarasa and Kata Yuzen. The edges of tenugui have traditionally been left unfinished. This is a time-honored Japanese ingenuity, allowing moisture to drain easily and the fabric to dry quickly, preventing water from pooling. Therefore, this is not considered a defective product.
