This is a two-strand necklace, intricately crafted with a vintage Indian metal top, Mizoram carnelian, excavated beads, ancient agate, and white & emerald blue beads.
The metal top piece hails from India. While its exact age is unknown, it is decidedly vintage or older, featuring a compass-like pattern. You can appreciate the subtle wear and character that only old metal possesses.
(Metal Part Dimensions: 2.7cm length, 1.8cm width)
The orange beads are Mizoram carnelian, believed to be from around the 18th century, originating from the Mizoram state in eastern India.
Their fine scratches lend a beautiful, aged patina.
(Mizoram Carnelian Diameter: 0.7cm)
The slightly larger blue beads are excavated beads, showing some patina (deposits). They possess a mystical quality, evoking a sense of ancient life.
A single small piece of ancient agate has been incorporated. This bead was unearthed in the Indus River basin, spanning regions like Pakistan and India, and is approximately 2000 years old. Its milky white hue, with slight irregularities and marks, contributes to its unique charm.
The emerald blue beads are antique beads known as Indo-Pacific beads. The origins of Indo-Pacific beads are said to date back to the 2nd century BCE. These particular beads are excavated finds from Indonesia, dating back an astonishing 1000 years or more to around the 10th century!
Their varied size and color create a visually captivating piece.
The white beads are old Indian seed beads, dating from the 19th to 20th centuries. Their worn texture is a testament to their history of being worn and cherished.
Although cleaned, they will gradually develop a porcelain-like whiteness with continued wear. We hope you enjoy witnessing their transformation over time.
(Bead Size: 2-3mm)
The small charms beside the golden beads and ancient agate are old Orissa brass, rare beads sourced from the state of Orissa in India. The round charm near the clasp is also old brass from India.
Each small Karen silver bead is individually stamped, a detail that evokes a sense of awe at the meticulous handcraftsmanship. The slightly curved clasp is also made of Karen silver.
◇ Karen Silver ◇
This silver is crafted by the hill tribes residing in the Tai Burma region. Each piece is handmade, and the purity is said to be exceptionally high.
The twisting of the strands adds depth and character.
Connected with waxed cord, the necklace will initially feel somewhat stiff but will become beautifully supple with wear.
