It is a petrified, jade-like chalcedony shale. Having endured eons of wind and sand, it is believed to have absorbed the essence of heaven and earth, sun and moon, thus earning the name "Shedding of the Earth." It is one of the Seven Treasures of Buddhism. "Alashan" in Mongolian signifies "colorful and vibrant." Its Mohs hardness is 6.5-7.8, making it a very easily maintained gemstone. Alashan has been historically used as an amulet and talisman, symbolizing friendship and hope. In terms of its energetic properties, Alashan is said to contain numerous trace elements beneficial to the human body, so wearing it frequently may promote good health.
