At that time, Russian Jewish immigrants Michael and Joseph Chernow founded their own company in Providence, Rhode Island, USA. They named their company Monocraft Products Co. The Chernow brothers worked under this name for a decade, and in 1929, they produced their first jewelry line. It's not possible to pinpoint the exact motivation behind the company's founders eventually naming their jewelry Monet. Perhaps they admired the works of Impressionist painters like Edouard Manet and Claude Monet. The Chernow brothers' brand, Monet jewelry, made its debut in 1937. This brand is renowned not only for its particular affinity for "vintage" style. With the help of Monet's masters, several revolutionary inventions related to the technical aspects of fashion jewelry were developed, which, incidentally, were patented. For example, they developed pierced earrings, as opposed to clip-on earrings, which are common today. Additionally, traditional Monet earrings incorporated a novel clasp design. The company also patented a clasp for necklaces known as the "barrel" clasp.
