By carefully controlling the thickness of each glaze application and firing at 1260 degrees Celsius, it undergoes a 20-hour transformation in the kiln. This intense heat causes the material to contract and flow, creating the intricate patterns and fluid movement reminiscent of a peacock's feathers. The challenge in its creation lies in the precise control of glaze thickness and the delicate adjustment of the temperature curve. If the glaze is too thin or the temperature too low, the characteristic peacock feather pattern will not emerge. Conversely, if the glaze is too thick or the temperature too high, it can flow onto the supporting surface, potentially damaging both the cup and the surface. Even ambient temperature variations can influence the final outcome. Despite years of dedicated study, the subtle nuances of these factors remain difficult to predict with absolute certainty.
