At that time, I was fascinated by the printed papers sold in old stationery shops. According to the shopkeepers, these papers were byproducts generated from printing on fabrics. Some of these printed papers were quite whimsical (like a crooked Pikachu), while others were nostalgic and charming, such as the "tuan shou" (longevity motif) pattern, Versailles Rose pattern, and Far Eastern Department Store pattern, among others. The printed papers were larger in format, usually folded in three. Unlike typical paper mills that can precisely cut full sheets of paper, the creases from previous folds in the printed paper had to be trimmed off (no one wants a notepad that curls up, right?). The manufacturing process had many unexpected challenges and wasn't as straightforward or convenient as one might assume.
