The pottery clay is made by uniquely blending various types of coarse white clay and red clay, kneaded together in a special combination that can only be achieved at this time. It has a softer hue than red clay alone, and a warmth that feels more like natural clay than white clay alone. The clay was formed into a shallow bowl with gentle curves and then fired not in our usual small electric kiln, but at a kiln facility we are currently working with, using their kerosene kiln. It was fired using a reduction firing method, which creates an oxygen-deficient environment inside the kiln, allowing you to enjoy a profound character that cannot be achieved with an electric kiln. The glazes used are two types: straw ash glaze and celadon glaze. By applying a thin layer of celadon glaze over the entire bowl and then layering straw ash glaze on top, an interesting firing was achieved, with flowing patterns and crystals appearing within the bluish-white. Both glazes are original to the kiln facility, offering unique colors and textures that cannot be found elsewhere. The size is suitable for use as either a serving bowl or a dish for one person. It's perfect for serving simmered dishes, stir-fries, rice bowls, pasta, or stews. Please enjoy it with a variety of your favorite dishes. All processes, from kneading the clay to shaping, bisque firing, glazing, and final firing, are done by hand in our studio, which is equipped with a small electric kiln and a potter's wheel. While it may feel slightly heavy when held, this weight contributes to its ceramic feel. Mass production is not possible, but each piece has its own unique expression, offering the charm of handmade craftsmanship. The item you receive will be the same as pictured. Therefore, we apply a waterproofing agent for tableware to our products before shipping, so there is no need for initial seasoning (metome). The waterproofing process requires 2-3 days, which is why we set the shipping period to 5 days from order placement.
