[Synopsis]
Murphy’s Law states: "Anything that can go wrong will go wrong!" In our daily lives, awareness and vigilance in personal risk management are essential. By observing, analyzing, and mentally rehearsing various aspects of our routines, we can navigate unexpected incidents and turn danger into safety. However, while we prepare for the worst, the unexpected is always a possibility, and insurance serves as your final line of defense against misfortune or accidental injury and death.
The author, Ng Chak Wai, is a seasoned insurance professional. Drawing on his extensive experience, he aims to elevate the professionalism within the insurance industry, address its malpractices, mentor junior professionals, and empower more individuals to become savvy policyholders. Through his writing and teaching, he seeks to help people avoid falling into insurance traps.
The author notes that insurance salespeople often rationalize their sales motives and employ persuasive tactics to close deals. He emphasizes that policyholders must ask more questions, conduct thorough research, and at the very least, perform basic analysis, rather than making uninformed decisions based on sheer luck.
He also points out that while insurance is personal, it functions as a societal safety net. Although the contract is between the policyholder and the insurer, it cannot be sustained without the participation of other policyholders, making it a shared social asset where "I am in you, and you are in me." Industry professionals not only have a responsibility to their company's shareholders but also to their clients, providing professional service, timely assistance, and fulfilling contractual obligations. For this societal protection system to operate effectively, the government also has its role to play.
The book is divided into three parts: "INSURANCE 101," "Insurance DOs and DON'Ts," and "Insurance Industry Pitfalls."
