Despite having "orchid" in its name, it is not related to orchids at all. Sansevieria is a type of succulent, though its appearance is more akin to a foliage plant. Taxonomically, it belongs to the tropical Asparagaceae family, within the Sansevieria genus. Symbolizing good health, longevity, wealth, and prosperity, it is a common foliage plant with leaves that stand tall and sword-like. Sansevieria has numerous origins, with approximately 70 species found worldwide, distributed from Africa to Asia. Varieties include Golden Sansevieria, Gold-edged (Kongo) Sansevieria, Silver Striped Sansevieria, Short-leaf Sansevieria, Dwarf Sansevieria, and Cylindrical Sansevieria, among others. Today, we are introducing the lovely 'Lotus' Sansevieria. The 'Lotus' Sansevieria is a variegated cultivar of the Sansevieria. It is also called Gold-edged Sansevieria due to the yellow stripes along its leaf margins. It thrives in warm and humid environments and can be grown indoors as an ornamental plant. As a variegated variety, the 'Lotus' Sansevieria is not suitable for leaf cuttings like other Sansevierias. If attempted, the resulting plants may not inherit the gold edges, as the gene for the gold edge may not be replicated. Therefore, it is best propagated by division, by separating and repotting new shoots once they have grown to a certain size. Sansevieria is not demanding in its environmental requirements, making it an excellent potted plant for decorating living rooms, studies, and other spaces. Its most significant benefit is its air-purifying capability. Experts state that Sansevieria can absorb over 80% of indoor harmful gases, with a particular strength in absorbing formaldehyde, making it highly practical for newly renovated homes. With both functionality and aesthetic appeal, potted Sansevieria can also help mitigate radiation, making it a top choice for beginner indoor plant enthusiasts! | Light | Extremely easy to care for, drought-tolerant, and prefers partial shade. It is best placed indoors with indirect sunlight. Direct outdoor sun exposure should not exceed 2 hours. Sansevieria generally prefers warm and sunny environments, but it is highly adaptable. If placed in direct sunlight, it can survive, and its leaves may appear lighter in color. If kept indoors with insufficient sunlight, its growth will slow, leaves will become a deeper green, and etiolation may occur. It is beneficial to periodically move it to receive some sunlight for better growth! | Watering | Remember, Sansevieria originates from dry environments. Therefore, use a "thoroughly dry, then thoroughly wet" watering method. In simple terms: "better dry than wet." Water only when the growing medium is completely dry to prevent root rot from overwatering. Most common Sansevieria varieties do not require frequent watering, typically every 2 weeks. However, adjust based on your specific growing conditions. Sansevieria is highly drought-tolerant; most failures are due to overwatering! | Soil | Sansevieria originates from hot and dry climates, so it requires well-draining soil. We use a potting mix with a proportion of perlite, and a base layer of expanded clay pebbles to enhance dryness or permeability. You can also purchase Akadama soil for repotting, as it is often used for its excellent drainage properties. 📝 Key Care Tips: Highly drought-tolerant! Water only when the soil is dry. Indoors: Water every 2-3 weeks. Outdoors in a well-ventilated, sunny environment: Water once a week. 📏📏📏📏📏📏📏📏📏 Square Pot Dimensions Length 8 x Width 8 x Height 6.8 cm 📏📏📏📏📏📏📏📏📏 Handcrafted cement with a unique Morandi pink x white gradient design, meticulously mixed by hand.
