Back then, I didn't understand specialty coffee, but I knew that when my family gathered, surrounded by the comforting aroma of coffee, it felt warm and grounded. My grandfather, once a successful businessman, decided to close his company after my grandmother passed away and return to his hometown to open a coffee shop. It wasn't about making money; it was about creating an opportunity for our family to reconnect. He often said, "There are no shortcuts in life, but there are always techniques. Build a solid foundation and master the skills, and you'll learn faster and perform more steadily." This philosophy has since become the guiding principle for my own learning and teaching. A Journey of Self-Study and Practice Driven by this, I began to learn voraciously. I delved into research, sought advice from many, and visited over 80 coffee shops across Taiwan. I participated in competitions, pursued further education to earn certifications, and obtained my SCA Certified Barista credential. It was then that I also started exploring teaching. Later, I began conducting corporate training and giving lectures at universities. Increasingly, students would ask me, "I want to learn about coffee, but I don't know where to start." The Birth of Shuo Coffee I realized that while many possess passion, they often lack a suitable starting point. This is precisely why I founded Shuo Coffee. The character "鑠" (Shuo) originally means the smelting of metals. It symbolizes the refinement of skills and the accumulation of taste. It also represents maintaining one's integrity and shining with an inner radiance, much like gold. An Extension of Lifestyle: A Cup of Coffee and a Slice of Cake Through our interactions with students, I've discovered that "appreciating coffee" is never a solitary experience. It's always connected to the ambiance, the atmosphere, and that sense of delicate everyday living. Consequently, we began offering handmade desserts and custom cakes. We insist on using premium ingredients, with every recipe crafted to be 80% less sugar, aiming to reveal the purest flavor profiles of the ingredients. It's not just about complementing the coffee, but about extending this dedication to detail to the dining table and to life itself. We want every dessert our customers receive to bring an extra touch of warmth, a little more happiness, and a cherished memory.
