Material Selection The cowhide used by "Cutting Line" is exclusively A-grade, high-fat, vegetable-tanned leather imported from Italy. As this is a natural material, and the tanning process used by the tannery minimizes damage to the leather's natural texture, it's common to find small "scars," "wrinkles," or "vein marks" on the surface. We carefully avoid these areas during cutting, or place them on less visible or non-stressed parts of the product. 2. Pure Hand Stitching We do not use sewing machines to craft our products; all items are meticulously hand-stitched. Before stitching, special diamond chisels are used to create the stitch holes in the leather, which allows for the signature wavy stitch effect, a key difference from machine stitching. While this significantly increases production time, it's an essential step where the leather artisan imbues the piece with its soul and a warm, tactile feel. 3. Hand Burnished Edge Finishing The final step before completion is the burnishing and finishing of the leather edges. Our aim is to achieve smooth, rounded, and natural-looking edges. "Cutting Line" employs its own unique edge finishing method. First, sandpaper is used to repeatedly smooth any sharp edges. Then, an edge sealant is applied to create a flat surface, repeated 2-3 times. Following this, an edge wax is applied, and finally, a burnishing tool is used to polish the edges until they achieve a smooth, lustrous finish. 4. Hand-Dyed Leather For our hand-dyed products, "Cutting Line" currently uses imported Fiebing's leather alcohol dyes from the United States. To ensure even and natural coloring, we begin by dampening the leather surface with water. Then, dye is applied layer by layer with a sponge, progressing from light to dark, until the desired shade is achieved. After drying, a fixative is applied to enhance color fastness. Finally, the surface is lightly wiped with clean water to remove any dust and further even out the color. As the dyeing is done entirely by hand, there are subtle variations in color between each piece, making every item truly unique.
