How to use this book: 1. This book will assist you in identifying the most common flowers in the UK and Europe. The small circular images next to the main illustrations show close-ups of the flowers, seeds, or fruits. These will help you identify the plants across different seasons. 4. Descriptions are provided next to the images. The illustrations are not drawn to scale, but the average height from the ground to the top of the flower is provided, along with the typical flowering season in the UK. 5. If a plant has a common name, it is used in this book; if not, the Latin name is used. Try asking someone with gardening knowledge to pronounce the Latin names aloud so you can learn the correct pronunciation. What to bring: Bring this book, a notebook, and a pencil to record your findings. Carry a tape measure to gauge plant height or flower width, and a magnifying glass will help you observe the finer parts of the flowers more closely. Sketch the flowers you find: Record details about them, making sure to include the plant's height, the color and shape of the flowers and leaves, and the location where you found it. Every time you find a flower, check off the small circle next to its picture. Scorecard: The scorecard at the end of the book provides points for every flower you find. Easy-to-spot flowers are worth 5 points, while less common ones are worth 25 points. Add up your total score after a day of observation. You may also check off flowers even if the color differs from the illustration in the book.
