The Kapok Embroidered Tie-Front Prairie Vest My first impression of the kapok tree was during a high school class. Through the laboratory window, across a river in the distance, I saw a kapok tree. At that time, the kapok flowers were in full bloom, the entire tree a vibrant orange-red. From then on, I paid attention to the kapok tree, watching its flowers bloom and fall each year, bear fruit, and then scatter its downy seeds. People have a love-hate relationship with the kapok tree. Kapok flowers fall decisively, landing with a distinct sound. Though I've never been hit by one, I have stepped on flattened flowers oozing their sap, and slipped slightly. The downy fibers often cling to window screens, between the leaves of potted plants, and even to clothes drying on the line. This is my relationship with the kapok tree. Despite all this, I have never grown tired of it, nor has my affection diminished.
