Proceedings of the Online Academic Symposium on Local Art Museums and Contemporary Art Criticism Practices

In recent years, local art museums have been successively established across Taiwan, ushering in new dynamics for the development of contemporary art in the country since the 2010s. Each local art museum features distinctive development strategies and varying operational systems. These institutions exert influence on the promotion of local art, while the distinctions and competition among them have become increasingly apparent with the growing number of museums. The Proceedings of the Online Academic Symposium on Local Art Museums and Contemporary Art Criticism Practices is a collection of papers presented at the "Online Academic Symposium on Local Art Museums and Contemporary Art Criticism Practices" organized by our museum from December 18 to December 19, 2021. This symposium was a collaboration between the Taoyuan Museum of Art and the Taiwan Art Critics Association. It delved into academic inquiries regarding the operational strategies of local art museums and the dual development of local museums and contemporary art, with three co-planned themes for paper submissions: "The Dual Development of Local Art Museums and Contemporary Art," "Environmental Aesthetics and Contemporary Art," and "Contemporary Art and Art Criticism Practices Under the Pandemic." The symposium included a keynote speech on the first day, and a total of 12 papers presented across 4 sessions over the two days.
