Hong Kong Naturalist How to make a choice between upstream and downstream and settle down? Perhaps we can find some enlightenment from an Englishman who made Hong Kong his home in the last century. From the Department of Biology of the University of Hong Kong, to being imprisoned in a concentration camp after the fall of Hong Kong, to serving as the director of the Development and Development Department after the war, and finally resigning in 1948 to return to China, no matter how the environment changes in the times, Geoffrey AC Herklots has always applied his biological knowledge to public welfare. Xiang Lesi taught in the Department of Biology of the University of Hong Kong in 1928. At that time, society paid little attention to the local natural ecology, so he co-founded the quarterly magazine "The Hong Kong Naturalist" (The Hong Kong Naturalist) with Alfred Herbert Crook, the then-retired principal of Queen's College, to talk about local flora and fauna in a way that appeals to both refined and popular tastes The history and characteristics of natural ecology, accompanied by detailed drawings and photographs. Not only does he have no motive for profit, but he also contributes to this interesting and tasteful magazine. Although the quarterly periodical ceased publication in 1941 due to the fall of Hong Kong, it promoted the development of research and the establishment of local knowledge in the future, and also inspired Southern scholars in the 1950s, including Ye Lingfeng, to write works such as "Hong Kong Local History". During the fall of Hong Kong, Xiang Lesi was imprisoned in the Stanley Concentration Camp. However, he was not overwhelmed by the current suffering, but firmly believed that the day of Shigemitsu would eventually come, and earlier in the camp he envisioned a detailed development blueprint for post-war Hong Kong. After the war, he seized the opportunity to turn his ideas into actions. He served as the director of the Development Department and promoted many reforms. He did not resign until 1948 when Gregory became the governor of Hong Kong. Among the colonial officials at that time, Shanle Si belonged to the minority who advocated equal treatment of Chinese; one of the biggest changes during his tenure was the establishment of a fish and vegetable monopoly system to solve the problem of farmers and fishermen’s income being squeezed by middlemen. It also ensures that food production is sufficient to cope with the post-war population increase. Even though the name is gradually forgotten by people, the achievements left by Xianglesi have always benefited Hong Kong. Change is never a one-step thing. Personal destiny is more or less restricted by the environment of the times, but we still have the power to make this place a little bit better. From the first issue of "The Hong Kong Naturalist" published by Hong Lesi in 1930, we carefully selected several colorful hand-painted drawings of local native bird and turned them into postcards of "Live in Hong Kong" and "Live in Hong Kong" Wall art series. In soft colors and tactile paper, the lively and amiable bird shapes not only present the rich and diverse ecology of this place, but behind the delicate brushstrokes also reveal the painstaking efforts that predecessors have devoted to recording this place. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52826874163_fb2cb502d3_c_d.jpg The work was originally published in the Spring 2019 issue of "Only Hong Kong" Paper size|32x42cm Picture size|30x40cm Paper|V-Lite Silk 170gsm Printing|Digital Printing Product serial number|WA0158 / Shipped in a paper tube / Handmade, each stamped with "Hang Hong Kong" watermark / The picture is for reference only, the product does not include the picture frame
