Material Selection The cowhide used by "TANGENT LINEAR" is exclusively A-grade, high-fat vegetable-tanned leather sourced from Italy. As a natural material, and due to the leather factory's use of less damaging vegetable-tanning processes, the leather surface may inevitably bear minor "scars," "wrinkles," or "vein marks." We endeavor to avoid these during the cutting process or position them on less visible or non-load-bearing areas of the product. 2. Hand-Stitched Seams Our products are not made using sewing machines; all items are meticulously hand-stitched. Before stitching, special awls are used to punch stitch holes into the leather, which is essential for achieving the beautiful, wavy stitch effect that distinguishes our work from machine-sewn items. While this significantly extends production time, it is a crucial step where the leather artisan imbues the piece with soul and a warm, tactile quality. 3. Hand-Burnished Edges Before a piece is finished, the leather edges are burnished and sealed. This process ensures the edges appear smooth, rounded, and natural. "TANGENT LINEAR" employs its own unique edge-finishing method. First, sandpaper is used to repeatedly smooth any sharp edges. Then, an edge-sealing liquid is applied to create a flat surface, repeated 2-3 times. Subsequently, a layer of edge-wax is applied, and the edges are repeatedly burnished with a polishing tool until they achieve a smooth finish. 4. Hand-Dyed Leather For our hand-dyed products, "TANGENT LINEAR" currently uses imported Fiebing's leather alcohol dyes from the United States. To achieve a uniform and natural coloration, we begin by dampening the leather surface with water. Then, using a sponge, the dye is applied repeatedly, layer by layer, from light to deep, until the desired hue is reached. After drying, a fixative is applied to enhance colorfastness. The surface is also treated with water and wiped to remove any surface dust, further refining the color's evenness. As this is a purely handmade dyeing process, subtle variations exist between the colors of each bag, making every piece unique.
