About the Artwork: This piece is inspired by "Tsumami-zaiku." What is Tsumami-zaiku? It is a traditional Japanese craft where square pieces of cloth are pinched and folded into petals, then combined to create beautiful flowers. It is traditionally used to make hair ornaments worn with Kimonos. Because the art of Tsumami-zaiku always begins with a perfect square, I specifically chose a square canvas for this series.
