Ching Hsing Wood (Taiwan Hinoki Cypress) On the global ranking of precious aromatic woods, Ching Hsing wood ranks between second and third. Agarwood holds the first position. Indian sandalwood and Taiwanese Ching Hsing wood are nearly indistinguishable in quality, on par with each other. As of 2012, the scientific community has defined four species within the Chamaecyparis genus: 'Chamaecyparis lawsoniana' found in the western Pacific Northwest of North America, the endemic Taiwanese species 'Chamaecyparis formosensis', 'Chamaecyparis funebris' from southwestern China, and 'Chamaecyparis vietnamensis' from Vietnam. While all four belong to the Chamaecyparis genus, their wood scents differ significantly. Among them, Taiwanese Ching Hsing wood possesses the most subtle and gentle fragrance, with the finest and densest grain and texture, making it the pinnacle of the Chamaecyparis genus. The scents of other Ching Hsing woods are slightly pungent and not as pleasant. As Ching Hsing wood often grows on rocky cliffs or along clear stream banks, its spiritual energy is pure, hence its efficacy in warding off evil and purifying negative influences.
