This means 14K gold is pressure-bonded onto brass at high temperatures, forming 1/20th of the total weight. Compared to standard gold plating, the thickness of the gold layer can be over a thousand times greater! While some appreciate this natural patina, it can be avoided by following these simple guidelines: ♦ Avoid contact with water ♦ Store in a resealable pouch when not being worn If the luster begins to fade, here are a few simple methods to restore your item's original shine. Please note that if the brass has been scratched, its color can be restored, but the original polished finish may not be fully recoverable (though the matte, antique bronze look is also quite beautiful!). ♦ Use a toothbrush dipped in a foaming toothpaste or tooth powder and gently brush the brass as you would your teeth to restore its shine. Be sure to dry thoroughly afterwards. ♦ A silver polishing cloth can quickly restore shine (not suitable for brushed finishes). ♦ Dilute some fresh lemon juice, immerse the brass item for approximately 5 minutes, and it will quickly regain its luster (not suitable for natural beads like pearls that are sensitive to acid).
