The first word, om, is a sacred syllable in various Indian religions, and hum represents the spirit of enlightenment. The middle part of the mantra, maṇi padme, is often interpreted as being in the locative case, "jewel in the lotus". This mantra can be used as a protection to keep users’ safe and peace.
