Its yield is extremely rare, and it is the national gem of the Dominican Republic. In ancient times, indigenous peoples living near the Caribbean Sea called this gemstone the "Stone of Atlantis," believed to be a remnant from the legendary lost empire of Atlantis. Larimar is a copper-containing pectolite, formed in the crevices of volcanic rocks, making it difficult to find. Large rough stones are even rarer. As its name suggests, this gemstone possesses an ocean-like blue hue, sometimes exhibiting blue-green tones. The white, wave-like patterns are its most distinct characteristic.
