The artist carefully controls the thickness of each glaze application before firing at 1260°C. Over 20 hours of intense heat transform the material within the kiln, causing it to shrink and flow, thus creating the intricate patterns and fluid movement reminiscent of peacock feathers. The challenge in its creation lies in the precise control of glaze thickness and the delicate adjustment of the temperature curve. Insufficient thickness or temperature will prevent the formation of the peacock feather pattern, while excessive thickness or heat can cause the glaze to run onto the accompanying plate, potentially damaging both the cup and the plate. Even ambient temperature variations can influence the final outcome. Numerous factors interplay, and despite years of dedicated practice, achieving perfect predictability remains elusive. It is precisely this inherent variability that imbues each finished piece with its precious uniqueness. The artist hopes this work inspires others to embrace hope when facing challenges, to persevere with unwavering effort, and to ultimately unfurl their own beautiful "feathers," illuminating their lives with brilliance.
