Before it was put into the kiln, the wood needed to be prepared. A batch of molds for the lids were available. Hobbyists, eager to add a glaze effect, weren't sure what the glaze would look like. They only knew the high iron content would produce red, blue, green, dark gray, etc. Unexpectedly, nature gave it a mottled, aged feel. There are also some very unique mottled cores. We've captured these unique crystals in close-ups: the handle, spout, lid... For your enjoyment. 1. Duckweed-like Yohen Spot Core As for Jianzhan, achieving a Yaobian (Yōbén) is quite difficult, and the price is quite high. This is only possible under extremely high temperatures, which is a significant challenge for both the work and the kiln. The clay must be able to withstand high temperatures, otherwise it will easily burn. 2. Ice cracks The key to creating these icy crackles, which are formed during the high-temperature cooling process and are highly aesthetic, is a very thick glaze layer and an oblique cross-section. This oblique cross-section creates a unique refraction effect when illuminated by light, making the cracks appear more three-dimensional, like the layered crystal structure of cracked ice. 3. Dark gray with a hint of green iron precipitation crystals Iron infiltration: When the molten iron nail contacts the clay or glaze of the teapot in a reducing atmosphere, the iron element will infiltrate into it. It will appear black with halo spots, and the lid of the teapot will be covered with spots and ice cracks. • In a reducing atmosphere, the infiltrated iron may form dark spots, appearing jet black or iron black in color. This is because divalent iron (Fe2+) is usually bluish green or black, which appears dark in ceramics. 4. With golden burn marks Because the flames are in direct contact with the fire channel, the temperature is higher than the surrounding area. This local high temperature difference will cause the clay on the surface of the body to sinter to different degrees. This pot has two colors: one is Rose Gold and the other is gold.
