About Wood Firing 'Wood firing' is a traditional kiln method, reaching temperatures over 1200°C using firewood. It leaves natural 'fire marks' from the direct flames on the ceramic body, and ash from the burning wood creates a warm, rich, and varied glaze. This is a realm unattainable by electric or gas kilns. Compared to standard electric and gas kilns, the entire wood-firing process—from stacking the kiln, ignition, sealing, to cooling—takes approximately 8-10 days. Furthermore, the intense kiln pressure, along with factors like humidity, wood dryness, the speed of stoking, and kiln placement, can lead to success or failure, with a higher breakage rate. Experienced wood-firing artisans meticulously consider kiln airflow, the placement of pieces of varying sizes, the estimated path of the flames, the stoking of wood and charcoal, and the precise control of heat. Every step requires utmost focus to present a perfect wood-fired piece. Origin: Hualien, Taiwan Precautions 1. All pieces are handcrafted; textures and colors may vary.
