Each shell piece features distinct natural textures and colors (shipped at random), creating rich visual layering when inlaid, which reveals captivating color and light play as viewing angles change. While natural seams are visible, the surface remains smooth and delicate to the touch. The nib is a custom Old Goat calligraphy titanium nib (EF nib, ground and adjusted), produced to special specifications by a German factory. It is a #250 (#6) size nib, hand-tuned by Old Goat artisans into a calligraphy nib capable of varying line widths, allowing for the unique charm of brush calligraphy. It offers more flexibility than standard calligraphy titanium nibs, enabling a wider range of strokes. The nib is engraved with the 3952 Yushan logo, making it a collectible piece. For the calligraphy nib, it is recommended to start by dipping the pen in ink (do not remove the converter installed inside the barrel to prevent ink from flowing back into the barrel). Once you have adapted to the nib's characteristics through usage, you may then use the converter to draw ink. 2. The calligraphy nib is an EF nib ground into a curved shape. Creating line variation depends not on pressing the nib, but on the angle at which you hold it, utilizing the curvature at the tip. A steeper angle results in less contact area with the paper, creating finer lines. The more tilted the pen, or the more pressure applied, the larger the contact area and the thicker the lines. Proficiency determines your ability to control line thickness. (Every nib has a limit to the pressure it can withstand; avoid excessive force to prevent damage or misalignment. It is recommended to use a writing mat under your paper.) This custom titanium nib is a special commission by Old Goat from a German manufacturer, featuring the 3952 Yushan logo. It is softer and more flexible than standard titanium nibs, yet more challenging to control. Due to its flexibility, poor technique while pressing the nib may cause ink flow interruption. The nib's unique feel often tempts users to apply pressure, but if the technique is not mastered, the nib and feed may temporarily separate, failing to keep up with the writing speed and causing ink gaps. Additionally, an incorrect holding angle combined with pressure can distort the feed channel and obstruct ink flow. As this nib is flexible and requires higher skill, we recommend mastering steel nibs or standard titanium nibs first before advancing to this custom calligraphy nib.
