Pure Hand-Stitched Seams We do not use sewing machines for our products; all items are meticulously hand-stitched. Before stitching, special awls are used to create precise holes in the leather, ensuring the beautiful, wave-like stitch pattern that distinguishes our work from machine-made items. While this significantly extends production time, it is a vital step where the leather artisan imbues the piece with soul and a warm, tactile feel. 3. Hand-Finished Edges Before completion, the edges of the leather are carefully burnished and sealed. This process results in smooth, rounded, and natural-looking edges. "Qi Xian Pai" employs its own unique edge-finishing method. First, sandpaper is used to repeatedly smooth any sharp edges. Then, a layer of edge sealant is applied for a flat appearance, repeated 2-3 times. Following this, a layer of edge wax is applied, and the edges are vigorously burnished with a polishing tool until they achieve a smooth, lustrous finish. 4. Hand-Dyed Leather For hand-dyed products, "Qi Xian Pai" uses imported Fiebing's leather alcohol dyes from the United States. To achieve a uniform and natural coloration, the leather surface is initially dampened with water. Dyes are then applied repeatedly with a sponge, gradually building from light to deep shades until the desired color is achieved. Once dry, a color sealant is applied to enhance colorfastness. The surface is also treated with clear water to remove any surface dust and further even out the color. As each piece is hand-dyed, subtle variations exist between the colors of individual bags, making each one unique.
