Its common crystal forms are hexagonal prisms and hexagonal pyramids, and its aggregates are often columnar. The crystals are transparent to translucent, exhibiting a vitreous luster. The refractive index ranges from 1.567 to 1.590, with a birefringence of 0.005 to 0.007. It displays noticeable pleochroism, ranging from blue to blue-green. Aquamarine has a hardness of 7.5, a density of 2.68 to 2.80 g/cm³, a conchoidal fracture, and good toughness. Aquamarine is a silicate containing beryllium and aluminum, and along with emerald, tourmaline, and topaz, it is categorized as a colored gemstone. The color of aquamarine ranges from sky blue to sea blue or greenish blue. Among these, specimens that are clear, flawless, and possess a rich, vibrant blue to light blue hue are considered the finest. Using aquamarine as the main design stone was a bold experiment by Ms. Shari. She selected a 1.1-carat light blue aquamarine as the centerpiece, surrounded by a halo of faceted zircons.
