1950s Japanese Vintage Nib Nikko No. 357 Sphere Pointed

Manufactured by Toyo Seiko Company in the 1950s (Showa 20s), this Nikko dip pen nib, No. 357 Sphere Pointed, was primarily designed for writing. It is suitable for Chinese, English, and Japanese text. With a relatively strong and stable steel construction and a slight flexibility, it is also well-suited for drawing. The nib features a pronounced curve and a wide body, allowing for excellent ink capacity. This is a vintage stock new item, preserved for over sixty years, with virtually no discernible flaws. For the Asian region, such a condition is exceptionally rare. A comparison between vintage and modern nibs: - Thicker metal, more refined craftsmanship. - Made from original metal (not plated), easier to start writing with, requiring no extended break-in period. - Superior ink capacity, generally more durable. The ink used in the reference photos is Lamy fountain pen ink (not shellac ink). The paper is Double A copy paper (which explains some feathering). Key usage considerations: 1. No need to fire or scrub with a toothbrush before use. 2. Some nibs may have original horizontal or vertical scrape marks from the factory. These were intentionally made to allow immediate use after purchase and are not defects. 3. If oil contamination affects ink flow or adhesion (e.g., from touching with hands or wax on paper), simply wash gently with soap, rinse, and dry before use. 4. Clean and dry the nib promptly after use, and store it after air-drying to prevent rust. 5. Minor rust on the pen body does not affect writing; rust on the nib itself will have an impact.
