The Tang Dynasty poet Meng Jiao's "Song of the Wandering Son" famously reads: "Daylily blooms on the hall's steps; the wandering son travels afar. The mother at the hall leans on the door, missing the daylily flowers." Legend has it that in ancient times, children who traveled far would plant fields of daylilies for their mothers.
