Made from black iron through intricate processes, they are a form of folk decorative craft. The patterns of these window grilles had no standardized designs, instead relying entirely on the artisan's ingenuity. Geometric patterns composed of straight lines or arcs were the most common, making each set of iron window grilles a unique "custom-made" work of art by the craftsman. However, as galvanized steel windows produced by mechanical means gradually replaced iron window grilles, the creation of these traditional grilles has largely become a part of history. To revive the spirit of these handcrafted window grilles, this piece utilizes copper as a metal material and employs etching techniques, thus bringing the essence of the window grille back to life.
