Vegetable-tanned leather, as the name suggests, is leather tanned using **vegetable tannins**. It's a general term for leather preserved through the use of plant-based tannins. This is the **oldest and most traditional method of leather tanning**. Its characteristic feature is its initial **light, skin-like color**. Over time, through exposure to sunlight, usage, air, and moisture, it gradually deepens to a caramel hue or even darker, making your leather item more beautiful and lustrous with age. The leather we select undergoes **no surface treatment**. Just like human skin, cowhide naturally has **inherent grain patterns and minor imperfections** from its growth. Surface treatments are akin to makeup, concealing these natural characteristics. Therefore, leather with **significant surface defects typically requires such treatments**. Consequently, **special leather conditioning oils are generally not required for maintenance**. The natural oils from your skin also contribute to conditioning, meaning **frequent use of your leather item is the best form of care**. If the leather gets wet, simply **air dry it in the shade**. If prolonged exposure to moisture causes the leather to dry out, you may apply a thin layer of leather conditioner sparingly. **Avoid using lotions or petroleum jelly-based products**, as these can clog the leather's pores and potentially damage the item. For regular storage, keep your leather items in a cool, well-ventilated area to prevent mold growth due to excessive humidity. If mold appears, gently wipe the surface with a dry cloth.
