This trip to Kyoto was filled with wonderful encounters. It not only allowed me to rediscover the joy of living mindfully but also showcased the ancient capital's deep respect for and innovation in traditional culture and craftsmanship. Among the most captivating discoveries was the coin purse, meticulously crafted by a kimono artisan. Mr. Nakamura, a gentle and distinguished craftsman, has retired from the world of kimono making but continues to create coin purses using his beloved kimono fabrics.
【Premium Kimono Tsumugi Series】
The dedication of a lifetime artisan is evident in every detail and material choice. This piece showcases Kyoto's exquisite 'Kanoko Shibori' tie-dye. Named for its resemblance to a fawn's spots, its textured surface is a delight to touch. The hand-dyeing process is incredibly intricate and refined, resulting in unique patterns and colors, making each piece exceptionally rare. Such treasures are truly a "once-in-a-lifetime" encounter.
Mr. Nakamura's pure silk coin purses stand leagues apart from those made with synthetic fibers or cotton found elsewhere. Even small everyday accessories should be of a quality that withstands scrutiny, akin to fine jewelry. He shared, "Use it gently, and the texture will soften beautifully over time."
It's clear that Kyoto residents truly appreciate quality. It's no wonder they take such pride in their city. We are deeply grateful to Mr. Nakamura for agreeing to create this special batch for us. To be perfectly honest, compared to the myriad of coin purses available, the initial price might seem a bit steep. At first, I was drawn in by its appearance, not fully considering the premium kimono fabric or the intricate clasp, which I took for granted. However, after receiving and using it, I truly understood its value. With every opening and closing, I find myself marveling, growing more fond of it each time. Those who receive one in person will understand what an art-piece coin purse truly is, and you'll undoubtedly want to collect more.
