Leather produced using chrome tanning is softer than vegetable-tanned leather, and it is less prone to fading, discoloration, and shrinkage. This technique is known as chrome tanning. Leather made from cowhide treated and tanned using this method is simply referred to as 'chrome-tanned cowhide.' Today, chrome-tanned cowhide accounts for approximately 95% of the global cowhide production for leather goods. Most commercially available leather bags, sofas, and accessories are made from chrome-tanned cowhide. The prevalence of chrome-tanned cowhide is primarily due to its softness, which makes it easier to produce a wide variety of leather items. Furthermore, the surface finishing techniques for this leather are incredibly diverse, allowing for finishes such as patent leather, nubuck (Crazy Horse leather), oil wax leather, embossed leather, and more. Leather is merely a byproduct of the livestock industry. Consequently, farmers do not pay special attention to protecting the cattle's skin. Thus, during their lives, cattle may suffer from insect bites, scratches, or punctures. Free-ranging cattle might also bear brand marks, and as they grow, their skin develops natural lines and wrinkles. Difficult births for cows can result in scars from C-sections. During the process of slaughtering cattle for meat, skinning can also cause knife marks. These imperfections are faithfully preserved in the leather when it is processed into finished leather, serving as a testament to the animal's life. They often opt for surface buffing and subsequent spraying by processing plants, resulting in a clean leather surface but lacking the natural character. At DOZI Handmade Leather, we do not intentionally avoid using these natural marks from the cattle, unless they are excessively large. As the user handles the item over time, the leather deepens in color and gains a sheen. You can also specify your preferred computer font. ▴ The engraving area is up to 60mm x 12mm, with a fee of NT$150. ▴ Laser engraving involves using a laser beam to apply high heat to the leather surface, resulting in a burnt, black appearance of the text. Therefore, this service cannot be used on dark-colored leathers such as black, dark blue, etc. ▴ Some products require laser engraving before production. We cannot perform laser engraving on existing stock items. Therefore, orders using this service must be scheduled separately. Please contact customer service in advance to inquire about production timelines. 🌞 Care and Maintenance -------------------- Frequent use is the best form of maintenance. Avoid storing leather in humid environments. If the leather accidentally gets wet, wipe it immediately with a dry cloth and allow it to air dry in a cool, well-ventilated area. Do not expose it to direct sunlight, as this can cause the leather to harden and deteriorate. Once dry, you can apply leather conditioning oil to replenish the leather's natural oils. You can also spray a waterproofing agent onto the surface to protect against accidental spills and enhance surface protection. If you need to store the leather item or will not be using it for an extended period, place it in an electronic dehumidifying cabinet, maintaining humidity between 50% and 60% to prevent mold. Alternatively, you can use a sealed bag with a desiccant packet for a similar effect. Cowhide is not excessively processed or coated with heavy surface treatments. There may be slight variations in color, grain, and minor scratches. If you require a perfectly flawless leather surface, it may be difficult for us to accommodate your request, and we do not accept demands for "flawless leather surfaces." Furthermore, once custom text or laser engraving has been applied, returns will not be accepted unless there was a production error.
