“A timeless box for storing the poetry of everyday life.”
The Shaker Box traces its origins to the 18th-century Shaker communities in the United States, who revered a philosophy of disciplined simplicity. By steaming and bending thick wooden strips, craftsmen hand-formed pure, minimalist storage boxes. Seemingly simple, each piece embodies meticulous craftsmanship and quiet beauty. To this day, their distinctive texture and practicality continue to be cherished across Europe, America, and Japan.
The EGDD Shaker Wooden Box carries forward this Shaker way of living. We sought out one of Taiwan’s last remaining bentwood artisans and re-engineered the traditionally heavy form, reshaping thin wooden sheets into perfectly rounded boxes. We also developed a new offset wood-veneer fiber technique, reinforcing the overlapping joints with a dovetail structure. The result is not only elegant and refined, but also allows the wood to “breathe,” giving the box exceptional durability over time.
From small to large, different sizes of Shaker Boxes can store kitchen ingredients, living-room snacks, bedside accessories, and all the little fragments of daily life. They gather clutter into calm order. They can be nested like Russian dolls, or stacked to become a small side table. In this way, minimalist beauty quietly seeps into the home—because serenity is simply order in the heart.
Product Features
Innovative reverse dovetail design — wood that breathes
An evolution of the traditional Shaker technique, the dovetail is extended and curled from right to left, creating a distinctive Taiwan-crafted character. More importantly, it leaves space for the wood to breathe, allowing natural expansion and contraction with changes in temperature and humidity—without cracking.
Three layers of solid wood, cross-laminated for strength
Carefully selected 2–3 layers of solid wood veneers are laminated in a cross-grain structure, reaching a thickness of up to 3 mm. The result is a construction that is both strong and resilient.
Handcrafted, made to measure by artisans
Each Shaker Box is individually made by skilled craftsmen—hand-cut, hand-sanded, steamed, bent, and shaped. The lid opens and closes smoothly, fitting the body as one seamless whole. Every inch is worth cherishing.
Warm, delicate, natural wood grain
The exterior is crafted from classic cherry wood. Every box features a unique natural grain, and over time it will continue to evolve, revealing a beauty that grows more elegant with age.
Antique finishing technique — enduring through time
Following the finishing methods of 18th-century classic furniture, the surface is both durable and pleasing to the eye. With proper care, it can be used for decades.
Multiple sizes, nestable and stackable, easy to store
Available in a full range of sizes—from small to large—these boxes can hold small items, ingredients, accessories, or clothing. They can be nested like Russian dolls for compact storage, or stacked to form a refined little side table.
