🌸 The Pinnacle of Japanese Painted Porcelain
A Symbol of Magnificent Ceramics - Kutani Ware
🎁 Originating from Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan (Kaga, Kanazawa, Komatsu, Nomi City), Kutani Ware is one of Japan's three great ceramic traditions. With nearly 400 years of history, it is renowned for its excellent quality and unique, purely hand-painted and fired craftsmanship.
Kutani Ware is characterized by its striking, vibrant colors, bold patterns, and often, gold leaf embellishments, which contribute significantly to its luxurious feel. It stands out among Japan's many regional ceramic arts for its resplendent and noble quality, making it an ideal gift choice!
💛 Dual-Purpose Elegance, Meticulous Yoshida-ya Craftsmanship
This piece is a Japanese "soy sauce dish" (shoyu-zara), perfect for soy sauce and other liquid condiments. The small, charming vessel loses none of its intricate detail; from the rounded body and slender neck to the exquisite rotating lid with its precise mechanism, it showcases the Japanese appreciation for detail and functional design. Even the floral and avian motifs adorning its compact surface are rendered with meticulous care. Once the lid is removed, it transforms into a delicate small vase, ready to hold a few flowers or stems, offering a different use and a new visual landscape.
The piece adopts the highly representative Yoshida-ya style of Kutani Ware, featuring large expanses of vibrant yellow covering the body. Azure kingfishers perch on branches, surrounded by clusters of pink flowers and green leaves. Even on this small scale, the feathers, petals, and layered foliage are depicted with fine detail and liveliness. The rich, full-bodied colors contrast beautifully with the mottled, textured yellow glaze, creating an effect that is both opulent and rustic. The floral and avian scenes encircling the vessel offer new details to appreciate from every angle.
《Yoshida-ya Kiln》
The Yoshida-ya Kiln was founded in 1824 by Yoshida-ya Den'uemon. It was a highly representative kiln during the "Revival of Kutani" period, following a century-long hiatus of Old Kutani, and one of the earliest kilns to establish a distinct and independent style. Inheriting the "full-color" style of "Ao-de Old Kutani," it heavily utilized colors like yellow, green, purple, and indigo to fill the surface of the ware. Its vibrant yellow, in particular, is characteristic, often depicting birds, animals, landscapes, and geometric patterns, creating an original artistic style that is rich, bold, yet possesses an ancient charm.
The distinct style established by Yoshida-ya has been continuously inherited and developed by later generations of Kutani Ware artisans and persists to this day, nearly two hundred years later. It is one of the few classical painting styles that have endured across eras, and one of the most recognizable and representative classic styles of Kutani Ware.
