Its proportion is impeccable, exuding both a spirited presence and a relaxed dimension. Examining the collar's details reveals a hand-rolled, ultra-fine edge, forming the foundation of its exquisite finish. The gentle dropped shoulders are complemented by a cuff, a feature typically found in more contemporary, neutral-toned pieces, lending this light Chinese-style shirt a modern, androgynous strength. The wide, accommodating sleeves are fastened with a single button, designed for effortless single-handed operation. Opting for a flat button instead of a rounded horn button reflects our subtle consideration for the wearer's comfort. The garment's overall volume is a crucial element, needing to harmonize with the sleeves while maintaining a crisp, stylish feel. Whether worn open or buttoned, it offers a sense of ease, perfect for layering with a T-shirt in early autumn or early summer. Xiangyunsha, an intangible cultural heritage, undergoes an additional process for its black iteration. Crafted from 100% mulberry silk spun voile, the fabric is crisp and refreshing, yet possesses a rich depth of texture. It is first repeatedly plant-dyed using Dioscorea cirrhosa root, resulting in an initial reddish-brown hue. This is followed by a covering with river mud, creating a dual AB-colored effect. The areas covered by river mud turn black, while the uncovered areas retain their reddish-brown color. Washing off the river mud and drying completes the fabric. The entire process requires constant manual operation, involving anywhere from a dozen to several dozen steps depending on the desired style and intensity. It also necessitates exposure to the intense summer sun. The river mud itself requires multiple washes. Consequently, each roll of Xiangyunsha is limited in quantity, typically no more than ten to twenty meters. This is because the manual process requires the fabric to be cut into shorter lengths to accommodate the intricate steps. The entire sun-curing process for Xiangyunsha is exceptionally complex, involving stages such as raw silk refining, immersion in Dioscorea cirrhosa root extract, drying, repeated immersion and drying cycles, boiling, multiple washes of the root extract, further boiling, more washes, re-boiling, sun-drying, mud application, washing, drying, misting, stretching, and finally, warehousing. The sun-curing alone involves dozens of steps, including three washes and nine boils, eighteen drying sessions. As a result, each piece of Xiangyunsha is unique, much like the leaves in a vast forest. The manual craftsmanship is evident, with the fabric displaying irregular, crackle-like patterns. It feels smooth yet resilient to the touch, and exceptionally cool against the skin. Like a Zisha teapot, it benefits from human interaction; the more it is worn, the softer and more skin-friendly it becomes, and its luster deepens. Colored Xiangyunsha is a modern adaptation. The black and reddish-brown tones have limitations in use, leading to the development of various colored versions, including reds, purples, and a spectrum of other hues, as well as prints. Currently, black is my most favored. I once experimented with a black-blue, but have since focused solely on black. This involves an additional black dyeing process on top of the AB dual-color base, resulting in a double-sided black effect. The two black sides possess different sheens: the river mud-dyed side exhibits a superior luster and texture, while the reverse side has a matte finish. Care Instructions: Hand wash only, do not machine wash. Wash in clean water, diluted baby shampoo can be used.
