Deities Chronicle 02: Yue Lao (The Matchmaker Deity) Among the deities in Taiwanese Taoist belief, Yue Lao ranked fourth in the 2016 survey of "Taiwan's Top 10 Most Worshipped Deities." (While not in the top three, this is still quite significant. Statistical data post-2016 is not readily available.) Yue Lao, short for Yue Xia Lao Ren, is often referred to as the Eastern Cupid. Many who wish for a partner have likely offered prayers to this deity. While we may know of him, we might not fully understand his role. This publication offers a deeper insight into Yue Lao.
