Teacher Nakamura, who is both shy and distinguished, has retired from the ranks of kimono artisans but continues to make clasped purses designed with kimono fabrics he's loved his whole life. 【Premium Kimono Tsumugi Series】 The artisan's lifelong dedication is fully evident in the details and material selection. This piece uses the rare "Oshima Tsumugi." This kimono textile from Oshima Sumiyoshi, Japan, is made by first dyeing silk threads with mineral mud and then weaving the fabric. The process is intricate, requiring twenty to thirty steps. Today, only a handful of artisans carry on this tradition, making it increasingly rare and typically used for high-end kimonos in Japan. - The characteristic of "Oshima Tsumugi" is its subtle, tasteful, low-saturation patterns that are very enduring. It's perfectly suited for modern daily wear, making a statement of vintage yet stylish flair with just one accessory.
