The process of hand-pinching or wheel-throwing imbues the pieces with life, making every item one of a kind. All our ceramic works are created collaboratively by my husband and me, hence the inscriptions "Ping" or "Fan." What is the origin of your creations?** We primarily use American clay, Japanese clay, and Taiwanese Miaoli clay for our creations. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51565549867_2d00e9c5fb_b.jpg **2. What is wood firing?** American clay, Japanese clay, and Miaoli clay are kneaded together in different proportions. The process involves purely hand-pinching (no wheel throwing machine) to slowly form the piece. After basic shaping, the lines of the greenware are refined, then sanded to complete the initial form. Once in the kiln, it undergoes a five-day, four-night continuous wood-firing process using natural longan and acacia wood. The temperature reaches over 1200 degrees Celsius. During this time, natural ash deposits adhere to the work, forming a special ash glaze. Simultaneously, the flame patterns within the kiln flow among the pieces, creating beautiful orange-red or blue-purple fire marks. After five days and four nights of ash and flame interplay, a week of cooling is required for a piece to achieve its beautiful form! Each piece is truly unique! What should patrons be aware of?** Product colors may vary slightly due to lighting during photography. As the pieces are purely handmade, they will inherently bear traces of the crafting process. Minor variations may also occur due to firing; slight imperfections in the rim or minor crafting scratches are considered normal and do not affect usability. We appreciate your understanding!
