Qing Dynasty Brocade Silk Pouch with "Ten Thousand Blessings and Double Happiness" Characters and "Auspicious Harvest" Motifs Dynasty: Qing, 1644-1911 AD Dimensions: Length 97 cm, Widest Width 14.5 cm Material: Other Description: A caishui (綵帨) is a silk ribbon tied around the chest, narrower at the top and wider and pointed at the bottom, resembling a modern tie. It could extend below the knees and featured a hanging loop at the top to fasten onto the buttons of a court robe. Attached to the loop were decorative tassels such as zhen (箴), guan (管), fu (縏), and zhi (袠). The caishui for empresses and imperial noble consorts were green, embroidered with motifs of auspicious harvests, and adorned with yellow tassels. Noble consorts' tassels were golden-yellow, and their embroidery featured auspicious fungi and plants; other details were the same as for imperial noble consorts.嬪 (pin - lower-ranking consorts) did not have embroidery. This piece is embroidered with "Auspicious Harvest" motifs using brocade silk. Manchu women traditionally wore pouches; in addition to the regulated styles for formal court attire, elaborately crafted caishui like this could also be worn as decoration with festive and daily wear.
