This twist of fate, however, led him into a profound artistic journey. The late National Palace Museum researcher Chu Ko hailed him as a "national treasure" in art, while former Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts director Lee Chun-Shan and art critic Lu Rong-Chih independently regarded him as a living "art history." During his youth, amidst the turmoil of war, he used the pseudonym "Er Shi" (Ear-based) and created realistic woodcut prints to protest and critique. After returning to Taiwan, he joined fellow art enthusiasts to establish significant art movements such as the "Modern Print Association," the "Fifth Moon Group," and "Modern Eye," paving the way for the development of contemporary art in Taiwan. Starting in 1957, he began creating print works using the readily available sugarcane board, pushing its characteristics to their limits. His print "Hibernation" won the Grand Prize at the 1st "International Print Biennial, Korea" in 1970. In his later years, his focus shifted to iron sculpture.
