The main structure of the second station, the current prototype of Taichung Station, was completed on March 21, 1917 (MinGuo 6). Located in Central District, Taichung City, Taichung Station is a special-grade station on the Taiwan Railways Administration line. It serves as a central transportation hub for most city buses, making it Taichung's most important transit nexus. Taichung Station, like the Governor-General's Office of Taiwan (now the Presidential Office Building), was designed in a British Classical architectural style, which Japanese academia categorizes as "Free Classical Style." It is now a designated Grade II National Historic Site.
