Fired at 1260°C for 20 hours, the intense heat transforms the glaze within the kiln, allowing it to shrink and flow, forming the intricate patterns and fluid movement reminiscent of a peacock's tail feathers. The challenge in its creation lies in the precise control of glaze thickness and temperature curves. If applied too thinly or fired at insufficient temperatures, the distinctive peacock feather pattern will not emerge. Conversely, if the glaze is too thick or the temperature too high, it can flow onto the accompanying plate, potentially damaging both the cup and the plate. Even ambient temperature variations can influence the final outcome. Numerous factors are at play, and despite years of dedicated study, achieving perfect predictability remains elusive. It is precisely this inherent variability that imbues each finished piece with its precious uniqueness.
