Their tea leaves were long plagued by small green leafhoppers, causing the leaves to curl and turn red, making them visually unappealing. One farmer, unable to bear the loss, decided to roast and sell these insect-bitten leaves. Surprisingly, the brewed tea possessed a unique honey aroma distinct from traditional oolong. It became a huge hit at trading houses and sold for a higher price than expected! When the farmer shared his story back home, no one believed him and accused him of "blowing hot air" (a local dialect for boasting), which led to the name "Boastful Tea" (Pengfeng Tea). Another theory links it to Ishizuka Eizo, the Japanese Governor-General of Taiwan at the time. Harvested between June and July, the leaves display five distinct colors: white, green, yellow, red, and brown. Due to the feeding of small green leafhoppers, the leaves undergo "salivation" (Zhuoxian), resulting in a unique ripe fruit and honey aroma.
