Compared to conventional electric or gas kilns, wood firing, from kiln stacking and ignition to sealing and cooling, takes approximately 8-10 days. Furthermore, factors such as the intense kiln pressure, humidity, wood dryness, the artisan's wood-stoking speed, and kiln placement can influence the success of a piece, leading to a higher breakage rate. Experienced wood-firing artisans carefully consider airflow dynamics during kiln stacking, planning the arrangement of pieces of varying sizes, estimating flame paths, and controlling wood and charcoal stoking, all with meticulous attention to achieve a perfect wood-fired creation.
