Yupo is an ancient Chinese traditional craft for making gold and silver jewelry, predating the "Dian Cui" (kingfisher feather) technique. Originating in the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods, it primarily used amber, gold, silver, and insect wings. Due to its complexity, it later evolved to use kingfisher feathers, eventually becoming the "Dian Cui" craft during the Ming and Qing dynasties. The text "ji yi yu cui" (combining with kingfisher feathers) in Han Feizi's "Collection of Strategies from the Upper Class" relates to this. In its production, wings from naturally deceased insects are collected in autumn. These are then fumigated with spices and treated with traditional Chinese medicine to form a film before being inlaid into metal settings. This technique combines insect wings and other materials with a metal base, serving to adorn jewelry.
