**"International Poets in Hong Kong" Series**
In the world of contemporary Japanese poetry, Mutsuro Takahashi may be the only recognized literary all-rounder. He has made great achievements in the fields of modern poetry, haiku, tanka, novels, essays, criticism and even the creation of the classical script "Noh".
The poet used his own creative actions to ease the "estrangement" and the confrontational "tense relationship" between modern Japanese poetry and classical traditional poetry. Takahashi's poetry makes a meaningful attempt between tradition and modernity, providing the possibility for new writing methods and a new poetic order for modern poetry. Its overall poetic style is steady, witty, and profound, with a certain sense of tragedy, making it unique among postwar Japanese modern poetry.
